What I did:
As an assignment for my Grade 11 Computer Science class, I had to make a simulation of an ecosystem with Plants, Sheep and Wolves.

• Plants are eaten by sheep, who are eaten by wolves.
• Whenever an animal eats its respective prey, it will gain health to continue into the following round.
• Sheep have gender so males and females can mate and reproduce.
• Each animal changes it's behaviour given the circumstances. For example, wolves will prioritize finding sheep when they are hungry. Sheep will prioritize plants when they are hungry and try to mate when they are not.
• Seasons are constantly changing, which affects growth rate of plants.

What I learned: During this project, I was able develop and strengthen my object oriented programming foundation. My teacher gave us free reign of what features to add into our simulation which allowed me to really let my creative side shine.

What I did:
In Grade 11, I partnered with my friend _Partholomew to create a video game to apply for the STEAM Greenlight competition.

We spent countless hours (including a few all nighters) to put our Java Object Oriented Programming Skills to use, and made a 2 person co-operative game where the players have to work togther and complete levels while avoiding monsters and collecting gems.

What I learned: Although we didn't win, I learned a valuable lesson which was to always put 100% effort into your work so that no matter the result, you can be proud of what you've accomplished knowing that you did your best.

Date: Jan 2020

What I did:
One of my friends and I partnered together to compete in Hack the Hammer, an annual Hackathon held at McMaster University.

Over the course of a 30 hour period, we brainstormed ideas, and created an educational program that would inform youth about the importance of making financially sound decisions, through an interactive simulation that urged the user make decisions given a variety of circumstances.

What I took away: Altogether my hackathon experience was extremely postive, as I got to meet new people, talk with some mentors, and participate in fun events. It's defintely something I would recommend for anyone, regardless of your computer science background.
